Sports Officer

May Olibale

After 2 years as a middle on the Varsity Volleyball team, I made the difficult decision to stop playing to support my health, and recover from a severe shoulder injury. As a D1 athlete, I experienced the incredible privilege of being a part of a tight-knit college team. I experienced the shortcomings of the DHA–namely, their lack of physical/mental health care. This lack of care is reflected beyond varsity programs; in IMs and club-sports there is little-to-no physical or mental support. Additionally, the cost of care should not fall on the injured—I will work to subsidize healthcare costs that arise from involvement in athletics.
I see this position as a way to continue my passion for sports off the court.
As your Sports Officer, I will increase the number of mental/physical therapists for all athletes. Moreover, I will work to decrease the athlete/non-athlete divide in our community.
