Join the HUA

The HUA is made up of Teams, each led by an Officer and supported by Team Members who volunteer to take part in advocacy and creative problem-solving. Teams have flexible responsibilities and should take action to improve student life. Any undergraduate student at Harvard College can be a member of the HUA. Members can join a Team that interests them, contributing their thoughts and energy to advocating on behalf of the student body and engaging with faculty and administration on the HUA’s priorities. Team Members are held accountable by their Team’s Officer and can serve on more than one Team at once.

To learn more serious specifics about each team, visit the Teams drop-down menu. We are excited to welcome you on board!

How You Can Get Involved

The HUA was created around the recognition that every student has the power to be a change-maker on campus, and that everyone deserves to have a seat at the table. It is designed so that students who recognize problems on campus and would like to address them are given the resources to do so. We focus on action rather than statements. We are committed to making all members of the community feel welcomed, regardless of their background. We use the strength of our numbers, and lean into the possibilities that come from working together. If that sounds like the kind of community you’d like to be a part of, we invite you to join in:

Join a Team

If you care about taking part in making sure the HUA is plugged in to a particular area of campus life, then join a Team (or two). You’ll regularly meet with other students interested in making improvements to that part of campus life and the Officers. You’ll know first-hand about what projects are being worked on in that area, able to contribute your own ideas and time to make them happen, and gain valuable experience through cooperation and teamwork!

Solve a Problem

Do you see an issue on campus that you would like to do something about? Go to the team you think best covers the issue and present the problem to the Officer. From there, you can either:

  1. Step up.

Talk to them about being the project leader, and go through the confirmation process with the rest of the team. From there, you’ll talk through a plan for implementation, gather a team of people to help you, and roll out the project. Once the problem is solved, your job is done!

  2. Step back.

If you don’t have the bandwidth to take on the job as a project leader, you can serve on the special team working to fix it. The Officer will bring the problem before the group, and someone else can take the lead on it.

  3. Step out.

We believe that action is best taken by those who saw the problem and cared enough to bring it up, but we understand if you don’t have time to do anything about it. After you bring it up with an Officer, you’re free to step out and let others take action. Thanks for caring enough to let us know where action on campus is needed!
