Treasurer(s)

Josh Kaplan

I am running for HUA treasurer to ensure that your college activities fees are used in a transparent and efficient manner. I will ensure transparency in funding decisions by releasing a live-updating public ledger of club funding decisions on the HUA website.

Currently, the HUA has many pools of funding, and therefore different application processes, making the process cumbersome. I plan to streamline the student organization application process so it is not so onerous for the students in said organizations to request and receive funding, which the Finance Committee would maximize for each event applied for by drawing upon its knowledge of various funding initiatives and needs. To simplify, I will replace the semester and monthly funding applications, along with any special initiative applications with a single form, which we will use to determine the best pool of funds to draw upon.

As the current HUA Director of Grants, I am proud to run for one of the Co-Treasurer positions to continue the work of the current Finance Committee. As the responsibility of the student government, the Finance Committee’s goal of ensuring equitable allocation of funds to student organizations and maintaining proper financial management is at the center of my vision. My key initiatives revolve around making the grant process more accessible and stress-free, getting the student activities fee covered through financial aid, and increasing the HUA budget. My track record contains my time helping write the current HUA Constitution Finance section, increasing the HUA budget, and improving the grant application process. As a current member of the Finance Committee, I am well-versed in the finance infrastructure needed to continue the legacy of responsible management and strive to support the HUA’s purpose of advocacy and transparency.
